Jeffry & Ivonne

I received a sweet thank you sms yesterday morning from the couple, Jeffry & Ivonne whom we had just concluded their church wedding decor on recent Saturday. Jeffry & Ivonne got married in the Church of Blessed Sacrament, Singapore on Dec 12 and will be celebrating their nuptials in Millennium Sirih, Jakarta on Dec 19 as they are both Indonesians. We are happy to be appointed as their wedding florist for the church wedding surrounding baby blue theme with white and pastel pink flowers.

Baby Blue, White & Pastel Pink Wedding Theme - Jeffry & Ivonne (Photos not yet uploaded to website)

I was truly touched by their warm gesture of making a trip to my place @ Sembawang this morning to thank me personally as they love the wedding flowers we had done for them =)

Lovely gift & wedding invite from Jeffry & Ivonne

We count ourselves truly blessed with many lovely clients and new friendships =) MySummerScents would not have progressed to this stage without many kind customer referrals from our ex bridal couples like Dennis & Cindy, Jessica etc... and received photos of the wedding decor (without our request) for our posting from Eslyn & Kwong Yew, Denise & Chee Ming etc and abundance of thank you notes and testimonies received from all couples whom we had worked with.

Thanks to all our ex bridal couples for having us and we look forward to having more new adventures and friendship in Year 2010 =)

Do check out our new postings in our website for wedding decor done in Sep and Oct: -

Busy Months

November and December had been really busy for us as there are a few super hot dates for weddings in these 2 months. Want to share a quick preview with you all on some of our favourite works in these 2 months. We need to find some time to sort out the photos before we arrange for them to be posted onto our website.

Catch a quick preview of what we had done ^_^

It had been a joyful experience working with Shiao Wei and Christopher as they could articulate very clearly on the color concept they would want. We could see much efforts and planning had been devoted in creating their dream wedding - from their personalized logo, customized designed wedding invitation cards and to their choice of color theme and flowers types. Besides taking care of the wedding flowers for their church wedding, we were proud that they had entrusted their bridal car decor and the bridal bouquet to us =) This couple loved white and yellow paired with silver and tiffany blue. I loved the bridal bouquet that Linda created for Shiao Wei - bright yellow calla lilies with white roses and a touch of green hypericum berries - a personal strong favorite of the bride.
As for the bridal car decor, Christopher was very cleared that he had wanted something that moved away from the pastel hues - cheery and bright was what he had conceptualized the bridal car decor to be!!!! Using white roses, wild flowers & berries and yellow mokara orchids, we created the sunny palette for their bridal car decor which drew compliments from the guests =)

Our 2nd wedding decor setup at Holy Grace Presybterian Church. We were so excited as this is one of our favourite color palettes for weddings - Pink & Chocolate Brown. Our greatest challenge was to secure the terracotta roses from the wholesaler as they rarely bring in this color. With great blessings.........we managed to secure the terracotta roses to be paired with the sweet pink roses & champagne color eusthomas. We did assure the couple, Andrew & Faith that we would try our best to get the terracotta roses in view of the short time frame since they had only confirmed the engagement of our services a week plus from their actual wedding date. We were glad that they gave us their understanding that the color was largely subject to its availability. I could see the big smile on Faith's face when she saw the flowers in the church hall and stepped forward to thank us for able to secure the terracotta roses =) We are very proud with the end result of this pink and chocolate brown we had created for Andrew & Faith =) Chocolate brown is indeed a color which is very flexible and gives an instant chic when paired with pastel or bright hues. Looking forward to a chance to create a chocolate brown and baby blue wedding color theme =)
We promise that we would try to work fast in consolidating the photos to be posted so that you all can see the whole range of the wedding themes we had created for these 2 months. Stay tune then!

Floral Exhibition in Shinjuku

Happen to chance upon this floral exhibition held at JR Shinjuku station during my recent trip to Tokyo. It seems to be an exhibition showcasing the rose breeds grown successfully by gardeners.
Take a look at the flowers...they are simply awesome! The colors of certain rose breeds look so artificial that I could not resist touching the petals to feel if they are real >_<

Tiffany Blue

Recently we had completed a wedding venue decor setup for a couple using Tiffany Blue and Hot Pink color theme. The effect turns out to be very refreshing especially with the venue setting at a hotel poolside. I would think that this color theme is indeed fun and a great way to spice up your wedding color theme without having to take a big risk. This color theme of Tiffany Blue and Hot Pink has now become a popular choice among my potential customers when they were viewing through my recent portfolios. So it will mean you be expecting more upcoming photos of Tiffany Blue with other color combination in my website ^_^
If you still feel that Hot Pink is too bold for you, you can consider going with white for a classic feel or subtle colors just as chocolate brown or pastel pink. On the other hand, if you have a flair for the dramatic, throw in red with tiffany blue! These 2 color combination will certainly make a beautiful and unique statement for your wedding. Why not act fast and be the first few brides to go with this upcoming wedding color theme! ^o^

Structural Floral Design Workshop

Last thurs, Lynn and I made our first attempt to incorporate structural design in our floral designs for VIP table centerpieces. This workshop is an additional session organised by this Ikebana floral instructor Kelvin which is held at a Chinese Restaurant at Toa Payoh.

Though we both have commercial floral design background, Kelvin's style of floral arrangement opens us to a new perspective towards floral art design - a combination of Ikebana (Japanese floral art) and European floral art. His style emphasizes 5 main elements i.e. Line, Color, Texture, Space and Balance. We are required to formulate our own designs incorporating the 5 main elements, purchase our floral and foilage materials and decide on the theme.

This is definitely a big challenge for both of us, firstly we are not familiar with structural designs we need to come up with themes that blend well with our designs. We tried google new ideas, browsed our floral magazines, ransacked our rooms, searching for materials that can be used to construct structures. More importantly, the day before the workshop, we managed to tap on Kelvin's creativity. Haha... we finally see some light in our masterpieces :)

Guess whose design? It's me, Linda! I hope you can tell that this is a Christmas theme. Had received feedback that it is a Mooncake Festival, Olympics etc :(

I had used 3 varying sizes Christmas wreath as the main structure design in the arrangement. The silver ribbon was used to create snowy effect to the arrangement. Red roses and pin par were used as red and green are associated with x'mas and also, they helped to brighten up the arrangement.

Next, Lynn's design. Oh izit this lovely? Wedding ferns, tealights, silver ribbons (to create the structural flow), lilies... does that remind you of wedding? (oh yes, it's a wedding theme). I strongly propose couples to consider using this design as their VIP centrepiece. Isn't this more unique? It adds to the "soft" and "quiet" look and yet able to capture attention from afar.

Here are some designs we come across in our workshop (done by some seniors).

Check it out the structure. Do you know what it's made of? Acrylic sticks!!! It's done by our neighbour, Pauline. She spent days and nights working on the structure. It finally pays off !!! Everyone was eager to capture the shot of this arrangement on the actual day. I personally felt that the arrangement was placed in the perfect spot, lighting that was placed below the arrangement had created a mystifying effect.

This was one of those few designs that Kelvin had praised. The gerberas are dancing in the air with the leaves - creating smooth lines and movements. Wow, I'm impressed. This session is certainly an enriching experience for both of us =)

Lovely Pics

Finally get settled down to sort out those pics we had taken for all our projects since May. We are preparing for the next batch of photos of our new decor works to be posted onto our website. Particularly like those pics we had taken at Halia Restaurant on May 10 ...thanks to my dear fren, Michelle =) This wedding covered 3 areas of the entire restaurant including the courtyard, winebar and the gallery room. Weather had not been good when we reached the restaurant to do the setup at 9am. But I was glad that the lovely sunshine came after the downpour for the awesome couple who deserves abundance of sunshine for their big day =) Below are some of my favourite shots of Michelle's masterpieces.

This guest table styling decor shot was captured through the drinking glass....interesting =)

Couple chair decor

The couple whom I had worked with is indeed an awesome pair - they are simply lovely and easy going to work with. Plus the great sense of humor of the groom had always made our discussion sessions a light hearted one. The bride had even offered to send me some of the decor shots captured by her photographer so that I can keep them in portfolio. Below is one shot provided by the couple.

Stage Backdrop

It was a great attempt that we had used spotlights in stage lighting to illuminate the backdrop and the crystal branch floral stands we had created for Janet's crystal wedding theme at Peach Garden Restaurant. We had used three movable spotlights in this stage lighting setup since the length of the stage is only about 12ft. Not only does the spotlight provides illumination, we see the importance of stage lighting in setting the ambience as well as to increase the guests' focus on the 2 crystal branch floral stands and the string curtains with orchids.

Blue and Black Color Combo

Not a good start...had not been blogging for the past 2 weeks. Had been busy meeting up with a few potential customers enquiring on the wedding decor. This is part of my job - having to meet up with them, understanding their expectations, visiting the venue and delivering my proposal and quotation to them. Most brides would come with color theme like pink, purple, champagne - the romantic and sweet wedding palette which most girls go for :) I would get pretty excited when couples come to me with unconventional or unqiue color theme.

Particularly like this color combination of this bouquet which my regular customer, Daniel had ordered lately for his girlfriend - a bouquet of black and blue roses! Wow - a bold color combo which is his girlfriend's fav. He had specificially instructed that it needs to have 10 stalks of blue roses and a stalk of black rose :) Both black and blue roses do not exist in nature. These blue roses were traditionally created by dyeing white roses, since the flower lacks the gene that produces true blue flowers. I had gotten from the wholesaler the Eucuador blue roses - they look more "naturally" dyed as compared to those dyed blue roses found in most florists.

Similarly, black roses do not exist in nature too. Those commonly called black roses by our local wholesalers are actually dark red color roses. Daniel is seeking help to see if I can possibly "create" a black rose for his girlfriend. I had finally achieved his "black rose" by using deco spray on the white rose. Daniel was rather happy with the end result in particular with my creation of "black rose" and was wondering how did I manage to spray it till the black rose looks very much natural :)
Black and blue theme.........wondering how it would be if this color palette were to used as wedding color theme.
